Crime Reporting

Efforts are made to inform members of the campus community on a timely basis about campus crime and crime-related issues. These efforts include the following:

  • Daily Crime Log - Public Safety maintains a daily crime log, which is available at our dispatcher's desk.
  • Crime Alerts - Crime Alerts are published when a crime occurs on or near campus that potentially threatens the university community. The crime alerts are emailed to the campus community.
  • Watch captains post the alerts in resident halls and on security bulletin boards throughout the campus.

Please see the updated (April 2014) How to Report Crimes on Campus for a list of all reportable crimes and for the geographical boundaries of campus.

Students and employees are cautioned never to attempt to apprehend or pursue a suspected criminal. Crimes or suspected criminals should be reported to the DPS dispatcher (202-319-5111) or, if appropriate, to 911.
